SAGINAW, MI — A group is currently collecting signatures in hopes of bringing a marijuana decriminalization proposal to Saginaw city voters in November.
That proposal has spurred conversation among MLive readers, some speaking in support of the proposed ballot issue and others questioning it.
But the vast majority of those voting in an MLive poll first posted online on April 25 sided with the proposed decriminalization effort.
Nearly three-quarters, or 805, of the more than 1,080 people voting in the poll said "Yes" to the question, "Should Saginaw voters decriminalize marijuana?" The remaining about 25 percent of those voting cast a "No" vote on the question.
If placed on the November ballot and ratified by city voters, the measure would add a new section to the Saginaw City Charter stating that no city ordinances would apply to the use or possession of less than one ounce of marijuana on private property by anyone 21 or older.
